Job Description

Process Monitoring & Control

·       Operate and monitor refinery processes through DCS, ESD, and SIS systems.

·       Continuously monitor process parameters including pressure, temperature, flow, levels, and product quality

·       indicators.

·       Optimize plant performance while maintaining safe operating limits.

·       Respond to abnormal operating conditions and initiate corrective actions.

 

ADU/CDU Operations

·       Monitor crude feed rate, furnace operation, distillation column performance, and product withdrawals.

·       Control reflux, stripping steam, and operating conditions to maximize product yields.

·       Monitor kerosene and Jet-A1 feed quality and transfer rates.

·       Handle process upsets including high temperatures, high pressures, flooding, and equipment trips.

·       Coordinate startup, shutdown, and operational activities with field operators.

 

Jet-A1 Hydrotreater Operations

·       Monitor reactor temperatures, pressures, differential pressures, and hydrogen circulation.

·       Control hydrogen-to-oil ratio and recycle gas systems.

·       Monitor compressor performance, separators, stripper systems, and process alarms.

·       Ensure Jet-A1 product quality meets operational and specification requirements.

·       Respond effectively to hydrogen loss, compressor trips, and reactor temperature excursions.

 

Hydrogen Production Unit Operations

·       Monitor reformer operation, feed gas systems, steam systems, and hydrogen purification processes.

·       Control hydrogen production rates, pressure, purity, and supply reliability.

·       Monitor PSA performance and hydrogen distribution to downstream units.

·       Respond to plant trips, equipment abnormalities, and process deviations.

·       Coordinate hydrogen availability requirements with HDU operations.

 

Startup, Shutdown & Commissioning Support

·       Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, shutdown, and performance testing activities.

·       Support loop checks, interlock testing, permissive verification, alarm testing, and functional checks.

·       Ensure operational readiness of DCS, ESD, and SIS systems before startup activities

·       Assist in troubleshooting and process stabilization during commissioning phases.

 

Emergency Response & Troubleshooting

·       Respond promptly to plant emergencies, equipment trips, process upsets, and operational abnormalities.

·       Execute emergency shutdown procedures when required.

·       Coordinate closely with field operators and operations management during emergency situations.

·       Support root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.

 

Knowledge Transfer & Team Development

·       Provide hands-on training and operational coaching to local panel and field operators.

·       Transfer operational knowledge, troubleshooting techniques, and refinery best practices.

·       Support competency development programs for refinery operations personnel.

·       Contribute to building an independent and technically capable local operations team.

 

Safety & Compliance

·       Ensure compliance with refinery operating procedures, HSE requirements, and regulatory standards.

·       Participate in HAZOP reviews, risk assessments, MOC activities, and safety audits.

·       Maintain strong process safety awareness and operational discipline.

·       Promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

 

Reporting & Communication

·       Prepare operational reports, shift handover reports, and incident summaries.

·       Communicate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and Management teams.

·       Maintain accurate operational logs and process records.

·       Complete DCS, ESD, SIS, alarm, trip, and permissive verification activities.

·       Ensure smooth transition from commissioning to stable operation.

 

Objective 5: Emergency Preparedness

·       Demonstrate effective response during plant emergencies and process upsets.

·       Maintain 24/7 emergency operational support readiness.

·       Minimize production losses during abnormal operating situations.

 

Job Requirements

·       Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree, MBA or postgraduate qualification preferred

·       Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.

·       Process Operations Diploma with extensive refinery operating experience may be considered

·       Refinery Operations Training.

·       DCS / Process Control System Certification.

·       Process Safety Management (PSM) Training.

·       HAZOP Awareness Training.

·       NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certification is an advantage.

·       Good English communication skills (written and spoken).

·       Additional languages are an advantage.

Professional Experiences ;

·       Minimum 10 years refinery operations experience.

·       Minimum 8 years CCR / Panel Operating experience.

·       Direct operating experience in:

·       ADU/CDU Panel Operations (Mandatory) Internal Use Only

·       Jet-A1 Hydrotreater Operations (Mandatory)

·       Hydrogen Production Unit Operations (Mandatory)

·       Proven experience in startup, shutdown, emergency handling, and troubleshooting.

·       Refinery commissioning and startup experience strongly preferred.
